Papa's 60th Birthday

We hit the road again a few weeks ago to meet up with the rest of my family in Livermore for my Dad's 60th birthday.  As a surprise (which turned out not to be a surprise since Mom spilled the beans) my sister Jessica flew out from Austin with Boaz, her youngest kid, who was born 6 weeks after Elliott.

Since we all got in late on Friday night, Bo and Elliott had to wait until Saturday morning for a good play session.  They were both rather mellow and snuggly at the start of the morning.  Here's a textbook example of a sweet Bo grin.  He turns one today!

Elliott enjoyed the variety of new (to him) toys to explore.  That was actually my blue and red shape sorter in the pic below from when I was his age!

They warmed up as the morning progressed, and started getting into into everything within reach.

Once they had explored every item within 3 feet of the floor in the living room, they moved on to the stairs, where Elliott proved to be a bad influence by showing Bo how to climb the stairs, and then egging him on to go higher and higher.

My dad decided he wanted to celebrate his birthday by racing go-carts at a nearby race track.  Here we are waiting for the green flag.

And the team after we crossed the finish line.  Jess and I held our own as we raced with the guys, while my sister Janine sat on the sidelines (because she's pregnant!) and helped my mom, Gram,  and cousin Amanda watch the kids.

Meanwhile, Elliott and Bo decided to play a game of Dance Dance Revolution.

The boys may have moves, but it was most likely the slowest game that machine has ever seen. (Check out Janine's baby belly in the background!)

But aren't they cute?

They ended the performance with a finale of Happy Birthday smiles for my dad.

Happy Birthday Papa!

After the race we went back to my parents' house for a pizza and gifts.  We gave my Dad a wine barrel top lazy susan from Murrietta's Well, and a nice bottle of Petite Syrah from a recent wine tasting trip in Paso Robles.

The most special gift was probably from my Gram and great uncle Laddie - a box full of letters and a painting of my dad's uncle Murl, who was killed in World War II.  My dad received his middle name in memory of Murl.

During the party Elliott enjoyed playing peek-a-boo.  He would hide behind his hand, and then giggle and flash a big smile when he pulled his hand away.

And because I love food - the beautiful, but large and intimidating chocolate cake.

Sunday before leaving town we hit the park.  Elliott and Bo enjoyed the swings.  This time Bo was the seasoned pro, and showed Elliott there was nothing to worry about.

Elliott enjoyed going down the slide...

... but enjoyed climbing up it much more.  There may be rock climbing in his future.  Look at that technique!

It was a great weekend with family!
