Welcome Home Baby Elliott!

\Wednesday, September 14, 2011

We had thought our time at the hospital would be nice to rest and relax, since going home we would be responsible for caring for our son all on our own (scary!).  We found the hospital to be neither relaxing nor restful - there were constant intrusions throughout the night from various nurses, doctors, and hospital staff, and baby Elliott fussed and cried through the entire night.  So even though we could have stayed at the hospital until Thursday, we decided to break out as soon as possible on Wednesday morning.

Once completing the necessary paperwork and getting the doctor approvals, we were left to dress our son for the first time and get him into the carseat.  Being competent adults Steve and I thought this would be no problem, but he was so wiggly and fussy it took 10 minutes of struggling to get Elliott into the cute sleep sac we planned to bring him home in (image a large long sleeved shirt with a drawstring at the bottom which covered his legs).  Unfortunately when we went to put him in the carseat we realized that the seatbelt needed to go between his legs, so the cute sleep sac wouldn't work at all.  By the time we struggled to change his outfit again (poor Elliott was screaming at this point), it was time to nurse.  So after 2 hours of trying to leave we were finally carted downstairs, Steve ran to get the car, we loaded up the family, and drove the 3 blocks home.

Reese was waiting to meet Elliott, and was so excited that he brought a persimmon from the backyard as a "welcome" gift.  After giving Elliott a quick tour of the house we all promptly took naps and began enjoying the peace and comfort that can only come from being at home.

Bringing Elliott Home

Home at last!
Ready to Ride!
(in the car - it's a bit too soon for Daddy's motorcycle)

Elliott is proving to be a little snuggle bug.  He's still pretty fussy in the night, and not too sure about his own bed, but he will sleep for any amount of time provided he can snuggle with someone who loves him.  I'm trying to soak up as many snuggles and kisses as I can, because I can just imagine him at 18 saying rolling his eyes and saying "Mom, do you have to?"

Finally asleep in the middle of the night

Reese is already in love with his "little brother"

P.S.  We're on the  hunt for a good nick name for Elliott.  "Buddy" is the one that flows off the tounge easiest for us, but that is also our nickname for Reese".  I like "Little Man", but that is a bit long.  We also have been calling him "Kid", but that seems to be lacking in affection.  Steve just suggested "Buck-o", but that's a little too wild west for me. Any suggestions?
