Flashback Saturday: Elliott starts solids, and other mischief

I'm back with another flashback post for you.  This one I actually wrote and uploaded most of the pictures for back in April, and then got sidetracked before posting.  So don't get confused - he's not pulling a Benjamin Button on you, and getting younger as the months go by.  Today, he is 10.5 months old, but the pictures and stories you are about to enjoy took place when he was a young little whippersnapper of only 6 months...

Yikes! Where does the time go?  I have a backlog of cute Elliott pics to share with you.  He is now 6 months old, and so much fun!  He's rolling over, babbling up a storm, and always smiling and giggling.

The beginning of the year was challenging.  Elliott had ear infections pretty much every other week from January 1 through the beginning of March.  He's a trooper, and was still generally happy during the days, but all of us were lacking in the sleep department as nights seemed to be more painful for him.

The good news is that Elliott is now drug free!!  Even though he took his 3 rounds of antibiotics like a champ, I hated the amount of medication I was giving him.  He had also been on medication for his silent reflux problems since November at 2.5 months old.  Knowing that many kids grow out of reflux pretty quickly, we decided to lower the dosage to once a day, and then a few weeks ago gave it up completely.  So far we haven't had a recurrence of the horrible pain crying we experienced when he was younger - he's just an all around happy kid who loves his toys (seriously, he would put all 200 in his mouth at once if he could).

We've also been neck deep in our kitchen remodel for the past 3 months. My next post will have more details about the excitement and chaos of our new kitchen, but here's a sneak peek to hold you over.  It looks so neat and organized in all the boxes..., but every box is a small piece of the puzzle, complete assembly required.

And on to the whirl wind recount of our February and March:

Grandpa Wayne and Lully visited at the beginning of February to help the kitchen project, and soak up as much Elliott time as they could.

Elliott attended his first superbowl party at our friend Rich's.  Notice how fascinated he is with Steve's beer.  Should I be worried?

Aunt Heather (she's an honorary aunt to Reese and Elliott) threw a picnic/BBQ at Steven's Park.

We took the opportunity at the BBQ to relax and enjoy some quality family time...

Elliott also enjoyed his first Valentine's day.  He loves paper, and thoroughly enjoyed all the cards he received in the mail.

To celebrate Valentine's day we took a romantic family walk on the bluffs with Reese - we just missed the sunset, but the colors in the sky were amazing.

The most exciting new adventure over the past few months has been solid foods.  At first Elliott didn't know what to do with the solid food.  He would take a bite, close his mouth and think about it, and then stick out his tongue and let everything fall out.  After a few days he figured it out, and has been going to town on whatever I put in front of him - carrots, peas, pears... he especially loved the bananas too!  He's a good eater already.  A challenge that we ran into at first was that he was way more interested in the tray to his bumbo seat than the food itself.  Meals would start out like this...

And end up like this...

Elliott is also becoming way more mobile.  He used to play nicely on his little playmat, but now that he is rolling he's traveling off the mat and across the living room.

He has convinced me that he no longer needs to be swaddled. We woke up one morning to discover he had struggled so hard to get his arm out of the swaddle, that he pulled it out of his PJs too!

Elliott has also decided that he is ready to start walking the dog.  It's great - with Elliott in the moby wrap, and holding on to Reese's leash, I can be hands free!  They are well on their way to being best friends and entertaining each other.

Every now and then Elliott gets to play guitar with Daddy.  He loves music already - if you look closely you can see his hand on the strings helping out.

April was a great month!  Although I could say that about every month since Elliott was born.  Can't believe it's almost August already.  Guess that means I need to start planning a B-day party:)  My baby's almost 1!!
